Video Released Of Jewelry Store Smash-And-Grab - Story - Local Memphis
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com)
Brand new video has been released by Memphis Police of a smash and grab robbery at Sissy's Log Cabin jewelry store. Police say the four men entered the store Saturday afternoon, smashed cases with hammers, and took several expensive Rolex watches.
The four men took off in two cars -- a white sedan and black Chevy pickup -- and are still on the run.
No one from sissy's Log Cabin wanted to go on camera but they told us that the safety of their customers and employees is their biggest concern.
They sent Local 24 a statement, which reads in part:
"The safety of our customers and team members is our top priority, and we are fully cooperating with the Memphis Police Department to apprehend the suspects."
On Monday, we spoke with a man who says his friend's wife witnessed the weekend smash and grab.
"I imagine she was shaken up to see something like that happen in broad daylight on a Saturday," says Brien Jones, who says he has worked in retail for 20 years.
This is not the first smash and grab the Mid-South has seen has seen. In April, thieves targeted the Zales in Southaven, Mississippi. Back in January 2014, police say crooks used hammers to smash and grab 65 Rolex watches within a minute at Reeds Jewelers at Wolfchase Galleria.
Jones says 20 years spent working in retail has taught him a few things about store security.
"Make sure to be visible and be alert at all times," he says. "Just make sure you interact with your customers, don't get isolated, don't let one person isolate you... that's how a lot of shoplifting things happen."
Several other jewelry stores in the area say this smash and grab makes them nervous but it's nothing they haven't seen before.
