Love of jewelry turns local women into business partners - Wahoo Newspaper

WAVERLY – Snap jewelry has become the trend in jewelry and for two local ladies.

Wendy Nordstrom of Waverly and Amy Wentzel of Lincoln started A & W’s Snap Jewelry two years ago and have seen firsthand how the trend has grown.

Snap jewelry is button-like charms that snap into a piece of jewelry, such as rings, bracelets, necklaces and just about anything.

“Headbands, sunglasses, name it, we can snap buttons to it,” Nordstrom said.

And the snaps they have made have just about everything on it too.

“We see a lot of people come and buy snaps that are popular. I love cheerleader, football, mom, those types of snaps,” she said. “I think bracelets and necklaces are the most popular and snaps that have anything to do with schools are good sellers.”

But the two ladies will take special requests and have been known to spend days looking for the right design that they can make into a button snap.

“I think the funniest one was with emoji’s being popular, a lady asked if we could make a poop one,” she laughed. “We did.”

Nordstrom pointed out that it depended on the orders they receive on how many hours she puts in sitting in front of her snap machine each evening.

“But it’s not unusual for me to sit there for a hour each night working on making buttons either to sell at a show or for special orders,” she said.

The two ladies have attended many vendor shows over the year and this Sunday will sponsor one at the Waverly Community Foundation Building.

“We have 22 vendors signed up,” Nordstrom said, adding that the show was free to attend.

But, she said, they would be taking a monetary donation to help a friend of hers with medical costs.

“We try to sponsor a show in the spring and in the fall, and so far we have been happy with them,” she said.

She said that their fall calendar was full of other weekend shows.

“We just enjoy it so much,” she said. “We have met a lot of nice people and enjoy watching them as they look over all the snap buttons.”

Snap buttons are a good way to reflect peoples’ moods Nordstrom said.

“It’s a good way to express yourself. A lot of fun to wear,” she added.
