Video captures thief making off with $1000 in jewelry - KOB 4

The never-ending battle has even forced a local popular jewelry store to upgrade security measures. It’s already paying off, as the latest thief was caught on camera stealing almost a dozen unique Lilly Barrack necklaces on Friday.

Judging from that surveillance video, the suspect seems to know exactly where to go. She walks right up to a jewelry case and slides it open without a problem, before going on to grab a handful of necklaces.

But one handful wasn’t enough, as she turns around and decides to return for more. She eventually made off with about $1,000 worth of merchandise.

“It’s incredibly violating,” said Julie, an employee at the store who preferred not to provide her last name. “We work very hard as a local manufacturer to employ amazing silversmiths, amazing employees in our company.”

Luckily, staff said no one was hurt. But this isn’t the first time Lilly Barrack has been targeted. They’ve been hit by criminals so much in the past that the store installed special glass for the windows and doors.

The business has also been outfitted with six high-definition cameras.

“We want to help other businesses around Albuquerque too, to get the word out,” Julie said. “We don’t stand for this.”

So they’re sending photos of the suspect to employees, as well as posting them around the shopping center located near Rio Grande and Griegos. Their hope is to spread the word, and a message – that this brazen crime will not be tolerated.

“You’re not going to get away with this and it’s got to stop,” Julie said. “It’s got to stop.”
