Milo's Custom Jewelers to hold grand opening in Southport Plaza - Kenosha News

Milo’s Custom Jewelers, which specializes in custom-made engagement rings, wedding bands and other fine jewelry, will celebrate its grand opening from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today in the Southport Shopping Plaza, 7000 Green Bay Road.

The store, owned by Milo Ochoa and his wife, Kristina Piehl-Ochoa, will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. It will be closed Sunday and Monday. Customers may also schedule private appointments.

“I love being a jeweler and sharing that love with other people. My passion is bringing my customers’ visions to life by helping them to create unique, one-of-a-kind jewelry. The care put into the design and quality is nearly unparalleled in today’s fast jewelry industry,” Ochoa said.

The store owners aim to create a more personalized experience than what customers may be used to dealing with at other stores.

“In my experience, jewelry stores often have a cold and unwelcoming atmosphere,” Ochoa said. “I wish to break from that model. I want my customers to feel as comfortable in my store — and as excited about our jewelry — as I am. They should feel confident in our knowledge and honesty.”

The 1,200-square-foot store has been fully renovated to accommodate a modern boutique atmosphere and features an elegant showroom and jeweler’s shop.

“I wanted our space to reflect the beautiful jewelry we’ll carry, so I chose to make it bright and clean, with a touch of modern style. That’s why I chose to incorporate a comfortable office space where customers can relax with a glass of wine while we help them to design a special piece,” said Piehl-Ochoa, a Kenosha native who also owns a local wellness center.

Though only 40 years old, Ochoa has 22 years of experience as a bench jeweler, and the couple even met while working together at a jewelry store.

The couple believes they can introduce their customers to a new way to buy or create jewelry.

“Because we do the CAD designing and manufacturing ourselves and eliminate the ‘middle man,’ we can work with our customers’ budgets and provide them with one-of-a-kind pieces they never thought they could afford,” Ochoa said.

They’re excited to open their first physical store in Kenosha.

“I want to bring a Chicago-like jewelry-buying experience to the Kenosha area. There doesn’t seem to be many other stores that offer an experience instead of just a purchase. I seek to offer the full experience,” Ochoa said.
