New jewelry store coming to Wytheville - Southwest Virginia Today
A jewelry store full of antique gemstones and sparkling, new diamonds is coming to Main Street.
P.R. Sturgill Fine Jewelry will open in the former Black Horse Artisan Guild location, in the Skeeter’s building, in late October or early November. The Wytheville store will be the shop’s second location; owner Philip Sturgill also owns a store in Radford.
In addition to fine jewelry, the store will offer antique and estate jewelry.
“We do a ton of estate, antiques and pre-owned jewelry,” said Jeremy Jones, who will manage the Wytheville store. “We do our own jewelry repairs. We have our own jeweler. We replace watch batteries. We restring pearls. We can make custom-designed rings, so if someone has an idea, we can make a completely custom-designed piece. We also buy gold, silver, diamonds and gemstones. We do a lot more; that’s just a quick bit of Sturgill’s.”
The store has been in business since 1979.
Jones said Sturgill’s will keep the store’s exposed brick décor. The store’s former tenants, who owned Black Horse Artisan Guild, restored the shop, tearing up carpet and ripping out plaster to reveal rich wooden floors and jagged brick walls that lend character and warmth to the store.
“We actually exposed more of the brick,” Jones said. “We want to stay with the ambiance of the building; it really works for us doing estate jewelry.”
Jones said the staff is looking forward to opening the Wytheville location.
“We love Wytheville,” he said. “It’s just a beautiful town and a tight-knit community where everyone knows everyone. And it also needs a jewelry store.”
Jones said the store is excited to become part of downtown Wytheville.
“We have had nothing but support and excitement since we started looking at this location to come to Wytheville,” he said. “We are looking forward to becoming a part of the community and being able to offer our unique services.”
The last jewelry store on Main Street was Smith’s Jewelers, which closed in 2011.
