Dubes Jewelry burglarized, again - Gazettextra

Dubes Jewelry owner Ken Corey can recall only two burglaries in the 66 years he has owned the downtown-Janesville store. One was in October. The other was three months later, on New Year’s Eve.
As in the first burglary, someone broke through two glass doors to enter the store at 21 W. Milwaukee St. Police on Tuesday morning said two burglars smashed glass jewelry cases and took a number of watches.
They were in the store for about one minute, starting around 9 p.m., said Sgt. Brian Vaughn.
Corey estimated the watches would be valued at about $2,000, and fixing the glass display cases will cost at least the same.
Corey, who is 92, said the burglaries won’t keep him from continuing to run the business he bought from the previous owner in 1952.
“It doesn’t really bother me because no one was hurt, and I have insurance,” he said.
He is planning security upgrades.
Corey said he and his son and daughter cleaned up the glass, which was everywhere.
The store lost an estimated $10,000 in goods during the earlier burglary, the night of Oct. 1, police reported at the time.
No arrests have been made in either burglary.
While Corey said there have been only two burglaries, there was one armed robbery in the early 1980s. A man entered, locked the door and threatened an employee with a pistol, Corey recalled. The loss was about $30,000, he recalled.
The man was later arrested in California.
