STEVENSVILLE — Although Jewels at the Bay, a jewelry boutique with handcrafted jewelry by American artisans and designers, opened on Kent Island in early February, owner Christina Glover wants to celebrate her spring collection and introduce her local talent.
From 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 14, Jewels at the Bay will hold an open house and meet-and-greet reception to acquaint the community with the new boutique and give customers an opportunity to meet the local artists and find out how their work is made and what inspires them. Jewelry artists include Melissa Kay-Steves of Charm Tree Jewelry, Regen Linn of Alloyed Earth Jewelry and sea glass artist Phil Lambert. Local artist Georgette Toews and photographer Susan Hale of Chesapeake Scenes, whose artwork and photography is displayed on the shop walls, also will be on hand.
“This is a wonderful way to get our customers to see our unique store and talk with are talented local artists,” Glover said.
Wine and refreshments will be served. Anyone who buys an item during the reception will be entered into a raffle for a $100 gift card.
Glover said she wanted a place on Kent Island for people to come and shop locally for unique and affordable jewelry and gifts. Glover spent months before the opening traveling to trade shows and hand-selecting the artisans for her shop. Her vision is to give customers an explorative shopping experience where they can learn about the artists process and vision.
Glover said it was important to carry local artists as well.
“We love our local artists and we wanted to help them by having their work in our store,” she said.
