Calvin Broyles Jewelry to open larger Beckley store - Beckley Register-Herald
In 1947, Calvin and Norma Broyles opened the first Calvin Broyles Jewelry location in Charleston.
Calvin, a Beckley native, grew up intrigued by the jewelry industry after learning about it from his father.
“His dad was a watchmaker by trade in Alderson,” said Calvin’s grandson Beau Broyles. “He decided to open a jewelry business where he not only offered watch making and repair, but also jewelry repair and selling fine jewelry.”
Calvin Broyles Jewelry has been in business for 71 years. The business is in the process of gut renovating a new Beckley location in the Cranberry Creek Shopping Center just four doors down from its current location.
“We just wanted to build a bigger and better store,” Beau said. “With that space, we’ll take advantage of the full square footage.”
Calvin Broyles Jewelers says the main reason they’re moving is because they’ve found their third “home” in Beckley.
They currently have two other operating locations in Charleston and Teays Valley. Many customers were traveling to Charleston from the Beckley area prior to the opening of the current Beckley location, Beau said.
“The people in the Beckley community have just been great,” he said. “We just wanted to build a nicer store for the Beckley area. Everybody here has been extremely supportive. We’re really excited about it.”
Everything in the Beckley location will be brand new. They purchased new jewelry cases and custom built a larger jewelry repair center and private showing room to add to their customers’ experience.
The business says the private showing room will be a nice, private place to shop for those looking to purchase an engagement ring or loose diamonds.
“It’s all to give the customer a better shopping experience,” Beau said. “We hired a jewelry interior designer that specializes in designing jewelry stores.”
The new Calvin Broyles Jewelry Beckley location is slated to open this December in time for the holidays. The business will be offering a Black Friday promotion with all customers receiving a free Yeti cooler with a qualifying purchase.
“We’re definitely affordable for all types of jewelry needs,” Beau explained.
The store offers gifts in the $28 range such as Alex and Ani bracelets as well as Pandora jewelry.
“We have some lower-priced points for anyone shopping for a nice gift. We also carry many designer brands of jewelry and finer jewelry,” Beau added.
Calvin Broyles Jewelry is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. They will have extended holiday hours in December.
