DJ Sita Abellan On Her Fendi Peekaboo Bag And LILITH Jewelry Line - Forbes
Sita Abellan may only be 25-years-old, but she already boasts a diverse and illustrious career to date: She was in the music video for Rihanna’s acclaimed song Bitch Better Have My Money, has played major music festivals such as Holy Ship and HARD Summer, walked for Rihanna during her Fenty x Puma show during Paris Fashion Week, photographed Kim Kardashian’s cover for ODDA Magazine, toured with Destructo and more. Her latest project includes the recent launch of her own mini Peekaboo bag with Silvia Venturini Fendi and the Fendi team.
“The bag obviously reflects my personality because it has different elements that are part of my world, like my snake,” Abellan says. “ There is a combination between a classic element, the iconic Peekaboo bag, with all the colors I designed together: white, green and orange. Then I added fur and python, creating a mix that’s distinctly classic, yet at the same time young, fresh and very cool—which is think is totally what I think when I think of Fendi: classy but cool.”
The designer, model, techno DJ and stylist adds that the collaboration is part of the Barcelona Peekaboo Project and there are only two bags in the world: one for Abellan and one for the Fendi archives. Other notable celebrities who have designed their own bespoke Peekaboo handbags include Gwyneth Paltrow, Cara Delevingne and Georgia-May Jagger.
In addition to her Fendi bag, Abellan also recently launched her own jewelry line dubbed LILITH, which is handmade is Milan and symbolizes the struggle against the patriarchy. She says she was inspired by the story of Adam’s first wife and the first woman to ever exist, Lilith, “who disappeared from the Garden of Eden after speaking the secret name of God.” Snakes are also a prominent theme throughout the line, which has double meaning: The snake was said to be in the Garden of Eden, but Abellan also considers snakes to be her “spirit animal.”
“The snake symbol represents the dream, the surrealism—it has deep symbolic, theological and spiritual meaning and is the animal I feel a spiritual connection with,” she notes. “I wanted to create a line of pieces that would be quotidian jewelry that would become part of the everyday life and not necessary aimed for a complete luxury aesthetic.”
“Lilith is a line that should make everybody feel strong and able to express themselves,” she adds when discussing the theme of the struggle against the patriarchy, which she says she believes most women experience in life.
The style icon notes that her biggest fashion inspiration is her grandmother, but she is also inspired by Marilyn Manson, Alexander McQueen, Salvador DalĂ and John Galliano. Abellan adds that in addition to expanding her foot in fashion, she also plans to do the same for her work as a techno DJ. She says she will start producing her own music next year, and she’ll be playing at clubs and festivals in Europe and South America.
