Owner of Alabama's oldest jewelry retailer dies at 87 - San Francisco Chronicle
CASHIERS, N.C. (AP) — Frank Bromberg Jr., who headed Alabama's oldest jewelry and family-owned retailer, has died. He was 87.
News outlets report Bromberg died Tuesday in Cashiers, North Carolina. He was the fifth generation to lead Bromberg's, a family-owned jewelry store that opened its doors in 1836 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Al.com reports Bromberg served the company as president and chairman of the board throughout his career. In addition to Bromberg's, he held several positions with his alma mater, the University of Alabama, including serving on the board of trustees for almost 20 years. Before joining the family business, Bromberg was a captain in the U.S. Air Force.
In a Facebook post on Bromberg's page Wednesday, the company called Bromberg "an excellent leader" and "a fine example of a life well lived."
