Police: Man steals $30,000 in diamond rings from jewelry stores - WISN Milwaukee
Milwaukee police say Timothy Dodd, 21, stole three different diamond rings worth approximately $30,000 from jewelry stores at Mayfair Mall and Glendale.According to a criminal complaint, officers responded to a home near 6th and Garfield last Tuesday for a firearm complaint. When they arrived, officers said they spotted Dodd, who matched a description provided by the caller, and arrested him.They said they found an automatic pistol in his shorts, along with a diamond ring. A tag on the diamond ring read, "2 CT RD SOL, SUPERIOR 14K WG, SEE CERT, $16669.00." From the tag, officers said they learned the ring was stolen last Monday from the Zales Jewelry Store at Mayfair Mall. According to Wauwatosa police, who responded to the initial call, Dodd told the store clerk he wanted to look at diamond rings for his fiancee. He held the ring and wanted to take a picture of it, police said.When the clerk asked for it back, Dodd reportedly denied having it and walked out of the store.Police said they also learned Dodd was the same person who stole a ring Friday from the Rodgers and Hollands Jewelry store at Mayfair Mall.In that instance, the ring had a 1.25 carat diamond and was worth $7,150. Also in the complaint, Dodd was identified as stealing a diamond ring worth $5,899 from the Kay Jewelers on Bayshore Drive in Glendale. Police said Dodd admitted to stealing all of the rings but lost the last two in a robbery and a dice game. Dodd is a convicted felon from Indianapolis. He's currently charged with one count of possession of a firearm by an out of state felon and three counts of felony retail theft. If convicted on all charges, he faces up to 32 years in prison.
