Three robbers were at large after striking a jewelry store late Wednesday morning in Ventura.

Police responded to a report of a robbery at Arroyo's Fine Jewelers, 254 E. Main St., at 11:16 a.m., according to authorities.

Officers learned that one robber entered and asked for jewelry that was on layaway, police said. While the clerk walked to the back of the store, the robber followed him and hit him with a handgun, police said. Then another robber entered the store and covered the front door with a tarp, police said.

The pair filled trash bags with several pieces of jewelry from the display cases, police said, and fled in a vehicle driven by a third person.

No injuries were reported, and the value of the stolen jewelry is not known.

The robber with the gun was described as a man with short hair and a thin build, wearing a white dress shirt and dark pants. The robber with the tarp was described as a heavy man wearing a light-colored shirt. No description was available of the getaway driver.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 805-339-4488.
