CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- Chula Vista police arrested two men after a jewelry sale gone wrong in a Costco parking lot.

Officers were called to the parking lot about a shooting and found one man holding another at gunpoint. After both were taken into custody, detectives were able to piece together what had happened.

Two men arrived separately at the warehouse store, located on Broadway near Naples Street, around 9:30 p.m. to complete the sale of a gold chain, which they had arranged through the online marketplace OfferUp, police explained.

The man found with the gun told officers that he had given the chain to the other man, identified as 30-year-old Albert Molina, after Molina paid for the jewelry by money order. But when the seller tried to cash the money order, he was unable to withdraw any funds, he told police.

The seller told officers he demanded the chain back from Molina, but the buyer refused and pulled out a gun. The two wrestled over the firearm, with the seller ending up with the gun as he fell out of the car where the two were making the transaction.

The seller told police that he feared Molina was going to run him over, so he fired at the vehicle, hitting the car but not Molina. He then held Molina at gunpoint until the officers arrived.

Police said they arrested Molina on suspicion of robbery after both men were interviewed by detectives. The other man was released by CVPD and not charged with a crime.
