In Clackamas County, Schrader, 63, is a pillar of the political establishment. She served on the County Commission from 2003 to 2008. After that, she was appointed to fill then-husband Kurt Schrader's state Senate seat when he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. She won election to the commission again in 2012.
