SAN ANTONIO  — After a months-long investigation, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office seized about $2 million worth of jewelry that is believed to be stolen and was being sold by a South Side business, officials announced Monday.

"The amount of jewelry was so significant, it took more than 20 deputies three weeks to inventory all of the more than 11,000 items," said BCSO spokesman James Keith.

Sheriff Susan Pamerleau said deputies went undercover at Joyeria Internacional, 6996 S Zarzamora St., after six victims came forward on Aug. 5 in the Stone Oak area.

Each of the victims had hired the same woman to clean their homes, authorities said. The woman, who has not been arrested as of Monday afternoon, allegedly transferred the stolen property to the store.

The investigation led deputies to obtain a search warrant for the jewelry store.

"(Deputies) found a safe in the jewelry store that contained the victims’ stolen items. It’s believed people at the store were knowingly buying stolen jewelry," Keith said, adding that "no arrests have been made at this time, but suspects have been identified, and the investigation continues."
