Kanye Confirms Drake Album, Designing Children's Clothes and Jewelry - Pitchfork
Kanye West's Yeezy Season 4 show is taking place this afternoon on Roosevelt Island, off the coast of Manhattan. (It will be live streamed on TIDAL.) In advance of the show, Kanye chatted with Vogue about the fashion line and many of his other projects, including an album with Drake, controversy stemming from the casting call for Yeezy Season 4, jewelry and children's clothing lines, his new Adidas stores, and more.
Ye confirmed that he is working on an album with Drake, saying “We’re just working on music, working on a bunch of music together, just having fun going into the studio...We’re working on an album, so there’s some exciting things coming up soon.” According to Vogue, “he declined to give a release date.” In August, Kanye hinted at possible collaborative album during an appearance at OVO Fest. Later that month, a mysterious billboard bearing both the G.O.O.D. Music and OVO Sound logos appeared, fueling further speculation.
Last week, when Kanye shared an open casting call for Yeezy Season 4, looking for “multiracial women only,” it generated some controversy on social media. In his conversation with Vogue, West also addressed the backlash, saying the concept came from conversations with his longtime collaborator Vanessa Bancroft, and that the idea was to not exclude anyone. He said: “How do you word the idea that you want all variations of black?...How do you word that exactly?” West added that at the casting call, “The ten thousand people that showed up didn’t have a problem with it.”
West also discussed a full line of children clothes that he’s been working on, inspired by clothes him and Kim Kardashian have been making from scratch for their children North and Saint. West recently launched an infant line for his Yeezy Boost 350 shoe. He also shared details on a jewelry line he’s working on, which he he called “a letter to my wife from a past life that can live past our lives.”
Finally, West said that he thinks the first Adidas/Kanye store will open in California, saying he’d like to do “200 stores in the next year,” but added, “That’s just me saying what I want. I’m not saying what can definitely happen but you might as well just state out loud what you want. That’ll put you one step closer to getting it.”
Earlier this year, Adidas announced an extensive partnership with West, which would include specialized retail stores serving as “distinct hubs for Adidas and West developed Yeezy product.”
