Amica displays jewelry in first time trunk show - The Corner News
Shelley Shields and Andrea Rossi, owners of Amica Jewelry, will be showcasing their handmade, vintage jewelry on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1950 Prim Circle in Auburn. The event will take place from 2-5 p.m. and will be their first time ever trunk show.
Inspired by the “immediate gratification” of making this fine jewelry, Shields and Rossi now have many items for sale. Rossi described their jewelry as “ethnic, contemporary, bohemian [with] retro inspiration.”
According to Rossi, Shields likes a retro aesthetic and regularly recycles elements from vintage jewelry into her pieces. She described Shield’s earrings and necklaces as “strongly sculptural.”
“My style is often expressed in intricate beading with attention to texture, color and pattern,” Rossi said. “An example would be my necklaces that contrast the textures of diamonds and bone beads.”
Ranging from very tedious beadwork to more statement pieces, the collection has a wide range of styles.
“Earrings start at $18 and necklaces start at $25,” Rossi said. “Our higher end prices, around $275, are made with semi precious stones and diamonds.”
Their talented work adds style and uniqueness to outfits, but at the end of the day it goes a lot further than that. The artists have decided to donate a percentage of the money made from sales to the Auburn Art Association.
“I have been on the board of the Auburn Arts Association for about 25 years,” Shields said. “Our main mission is the art education of children, and that any child should have the opportunity to participate in whatever programs offer; so we have scholarships to make sure that happens.”
Moreover, The Auburn Art Association is further involved in the city.
“We were also instrumental in getting art teachers into public schools,” Shields said. “We try and help local artists by having shows and selling their art at different events during the year.”
“All the pieces are unique and are the kind of jewelry Shelley and I would by for ourselves,” Rossi added.
Auburn students, locals, jewelry aficionados, and visitors are welcomed to come check out the Amica Jewelry show. You can RSVP at amicajewelry@gmail.com.
