HPD seeks suspects in jewelry store heist - Hanford Sentinel
HANFORD — The Hanford Police Department is searching for a couple suspected in the theft Sunday of more than $18,000 of merchandise from a jewelry store.
Around 2:25 p.m., police responded to the reported theft at Maria’s Fine Jewelry, located at 1844 W. Lacey Blvd. The two suspects, a man and a woman, reportedly used various distraction techniques to take and conceal the items before they walked out of the store.
Police said couple reportedly spoke with accents, possibly Portuguese or Spanish, and claimed to be visitors in need of gifts for a wedding. The suspects offered to pay for the merchandise with Euros. When the clerk said the store did not accept Euros, the suspects left a $100 bill and claimed they would return with cash to pay for the items.
Store employees realized the theft had occurred after the couple left the store, police said.
Anyone with information regarding this case, or the identities of the suspects, is urged to call the Hanford Police Department at 585-2535.
