Jewelry thief linked to theft by DNA evidence gets prison - Boston Herald
FALL RIVER — A Massachusetts man whose DNA was taken from a small amount of blood on broken glass inside a smashed jewelry display case is headed to prison for stealing jewelry valued at about $50,000.
The Bristol County District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday that 32-year-old David Sinclair of Fall River was sentenced to three to four years after pleading guilty to larceny and breaking and entering.
Police had responded to a Fall River jewelry shop in September 2014 and found a broken glass door and three broken display cases. No one was there.
Prosecutors say rings, bangles and a chain valued at $15,000 were among the items stolen.
They say a detective recovered blood from the broken glass that matched Sinclair's DNA profile. Authorities confirmed that Sinclair didn't work at the store.
