Brother and sister stole $7000 in jewelry in burglary, police say - NJ.com
EVESHAM TWP. — A brother and sister from Sicklerville were charged in connection with the theft of $7,000 in jewelry from an Evesham home.
Nicholas, 31, and Erica Martorano, 35, were both charged Monday with third-degree burglary, third-degree theft and third-degree criminal mischief, according to a statement from police.
Lt. Joseph Friel said suspects broke into a home on Holmes Lane Sept. 29 by smashing a sliding glass door and made off with jewelry.
They were able to connect the Martorano siblings to the theft after learning that they sold some of the jewelry to pawn shops, Friel said.
Authorities require pawn shop owners to upload images and details about any precious metal items into the Regional Automated Property Information Database, or RAPID.
Evesham police found an engagement ring in the database that matched the description of one stolen from the Holmes Lane residence. After the homeowner confirmed it was hers, Friel said, police determined that the Martorano siblings had pawned it to the store.
He said Nicholas and Erica Martorano were being held at the Salem County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail each.
