Corte Madera jewelry store raided in armed heist - Marin Independent Journal

A gunman and two accomplices raided a Corte Madera jewelry store Thursday before escaping in a car waiting on Highway 101, police said.

The incident occurred at about 12:20 p.m at Julianna’s Fine Jewelry in the Village at Corte Madera shopping center. One of the men had a handgun and all wore hooded sweatshirts and surgical masks, said Central Marin police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher.

The three men ordered the store’s occupants to the floor while one of the suspects smashed a glass display.

The suspects were seen running west out of the plaza, hopping a fence and getting into a car waiting on the freeway shoulder, Rohrbacher said.

No one was injured in the store, and there was no loss of merchandise.

Police received preliminary reports that gunshots were fired during the incident, but the sound was apparently the sharp crack of breaking glass.

The getaway car was described as a small, silver sedan. Police and sheriff’s deputies searched the area and were unable to find it.

Witnesses with potential information can call the Central Marin Police Authority at 415-927-5150.

The case was the second at the shopping center since Nov. 25, when a group of bandits swiped $35,000 to $40,000 in equipment from the Apple Store and escaped. No weapons or injuries were reported during the crime.

Julianna’s Fine Jewelry was the site of a robbery in August 2012. One man had a semiautomatic gun, a second smashed the display cases with a tire iron and the third loaded the looted watches into a duffel bag. One of the proprietors was injured after being shoved into a display case. The robbers escaped in a black Dodge Charger waiting nearby.
