Hamilton Jewelry - Laredo Morning Times
As a new day dawns on the busy streets of downtown Laredo, a local longstanding merchant by the name of Arturo Sanchez prepares his business for the day’s challenges as he unlocks the doors to Hamilton Jewelry at 607 Flores Street. After stepping in and turning on the lights, he darts to the back of the shop to fill a bucket of water to sweep and clean the sidewalk in front of his establishment to have a clean entrance just as his father did so many years before. Such is the life of a jeweler and watchman….slow steady and always prepared for the daunting trials and tribulations of clock/watch and jeweler sales and repair.
Much like the fine timepieces sold within this family owned and operated retail store, Mr. Sanchez exemplifies commitment to excellence, unparalleled business acumen, community involvement and thus recognition of being at the top of his game in this industry. He moves graciously precise much like a silent drill team within the confines of a set space in his store between the staggered display cases to attend to a visiting patron. The customer explains to Don Arturo that he was told to come to him for knowledgeable guidance on repairing an old German Hermle Grandfather clock that isn’t operable. With an unforgettable smile and easy going nature Mr. Sanchez says “no te preocupes, aqui te lo arreglamos” to the concerned grandfather clock owner. He gives him a ticket stub for merchandise pickup and says give me 2 weeks…I’ll call you when it’s done.
Thus another satisfied customer, in a long line of many in the history of Hamilton Jewelry and its place in Laredo history as one of the first jewelry stores in town. Day after day, year after year, Arturo Sanchez, owner and operator of Hamilton Jewelry carries on the legacy of his family, their values, commitment to service and their community, as artisans and time keepers, as he looks up and smiles as the whimsical chimes of a recently repaired grandfather clock alert us to lunch time.
