Old Time Crime: Scottsdale jewelry store owner robbed & killed in 1997 - ABC15 Arizona

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - It's been twenty years since a Scottsdale jewelry store owner was robbed and killed and his killers are still at large.

It was September 26, 1997, when Jong Sun Kim was shot and killed by two suspects as he was leaving his jewelry store near Scottsdale and McDowell roads.

According to Scottsdale Police, the two suspects fought with Kim, before shooting him. The theft and murder happened about 8:30 p.m. and there were about a dozen witnesses who were eating dinner at nearby restaurants. They reported to police that there were two suspects and they left in a white SUV.

Initially, a $20,000 reward was put up by local businesses, family and the Korean community and the public responded with numerous tips, but soon the leads went cold.

Cards and flowers were left outside the store from family, friends, and customers. After twenty years they continue to wait for answers.
