Waynesboro burglary yields thousands in jewelry | Local ... - The Daily Progress

WAYNESBORO — Thieves hit a Locust Avenue home during the day Thursday, getting away with a stash of jewelry worth more than $9,000, according to the Waynesboro Police Department.

The modus operandi of the burglary is similar to three others that have occurred on the southwest side of Waynesboro in the last three months, including a Sept. 7 break-in to another home on Locust. The targeted homes are all within a mile of one another and are all located on streets that either shoot off from Rosser Avenue, or are close by that main thoroughfare through the southwest section of the city.

In the most recent case, police say the homeowner returned to the residence in the 700 block of Locust Avenue at about 3:30 Thursday afternoon and found that her house had been forcibly entered. Multiple pieces of jewelry had been been stolen.

The burglary fits the pattern of the three other cases, which occurred on Aug. 22, Sept. 7 and Sept. 26. On those  dates, homes were forcibly entered during the day on Country Lodge Road, Locust and Westminster Drive, respectively.

The prior cases netted the thieves more than $10,000 in jewelry, collectively. The cases are all similar in time of day, items targeted and the fact that the thieves used force to break in to the homes.

Anyone with information about this week's incident or any of the other cases is asked to contact Detective Jamie Dunn at (540) 942-6543 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-322-2017.
