Attempted robber douses jewelry store worker in lighter fluid - NY ... - New York Daily News
A felonious firebug robbed a Lower East Side jewelry store after dousing a worker with lighter fluid and threatening to set her ablaze, police said Sunday.
Cops arrested would-be arsonist Kevin Scurry after the woman’s fellow workers chased him down Orchard St. near Rivington St. and he was spotted by cops.
Scurry entered the Yaf Sparkle Jewelry boutique on Orchard St. about 3:10 p.m. Saturday pretending to be a customer.
When a worker showed him a particular bauble, he doused her with lighter fluid while holding a cigarette lighter, cops said.
He grabbed the jewelry and ran off — only to be chased by the other workers, cops said.
No injuries were reported. The stolen loot was found discarded on Rivington St.
Cops charged Scurry with robbery.
