Smash-and-grab at Richmond Heights jewelry store netted more than $59000 in diamonds, feds say - STLtoday.com

RICHMOND HEIGHTS • Four men are facing a federal charge after being accused of smashing a Richmond Heights jewelry store's display cases, stealing diamonds worth more than $59,000 and watches, charging documents say.

The men entered Jared the Galleria of Jewelry at 8:21 p.m. on Monday, an affidavit filed in court by FBI Special Agent David Ogurek says. One held the door open while the others smashed the cases with blue-handled hammers and took the diamonds and watches, Ogurek wrote.

The store is in the Boulevard development just east of the St. Louis Galleria. Police were nearby due to an unrelated incident, and quickly caught all four, Ogurek wrote.

All are from Michigan, and Ogurek's affidavit says there were robberies at Jared stores there on Nov. 9 and Oct. 25 by men with a similar appearance and using blue-handled hammers.

Tyran Gray, 19, Xavier Grove, 33, Darrell Lee, 20, and Robert Scott, 29, were charged by complaint with interference with commerce by threat or violence.

Their lawyers either could not be reached for comment or declined to comment Thursday. Photos of the men were not available.
