Arrest made in Cedar Falls jewelry store robbery - Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier
CEDAR FALLS -- Police have arrested a man in connection with a Jan. 22 robbery at Kay Jewelers, 306 E. Viking Road.
Police Tuesday arrested Carlos Alejandro Roig Gonzalez, 33, 1203 Tremont St. on a complaint of first-degree robbery.
Police said investigators determined Gonzalez had been in the store days earlier. Investigators also found a vehicle matching the description that he drives on surveillance video in the area.
Investigators executed a search warrant at Gonzalez’s residence, and evidence from the robbery was found matching witnesses' statements, as well as jewelry.
Gonzales was taken into custody Jan. 23 on a previous unrelated charge of violation of a no-contact order and is being held on that charge in the Black Hawk County Jail pending an initial court appearance on the robbery complaint.
Police had said a robber armed with a knife had entered the jewelry store around 8:20 p.m. Jan. 22 and demanded money and jewelry. Before he fled on foot, he sprayed the workers, police said. Paramedics treated the workers at the scene, but they weren’t transported to the hospital.
