Burglar caught in the act flees with jewelry, money - Palo Alto Online
A man was taking jewelry and money from an apartment in Palo Alto on Saturday morning, when he was caught in the act by a resident who he pushed as he made his escape, police said Tuesday.
Officers responded to a reported burglary in progress in the 300 block of Curtner Avenue around 9:20 a.m., police said in a news release. When they reached the complex, they were unable to find the man, who remains at large as of early Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators learned the resident, a woman in her 40s, left her apartment at about 8:50 a.m. to run an errand and came back about 30 minutes later to find her front door was unlocked and a light inside left on, according to police. She stepped into the home to find someone had rummaged through her belongings and encountered a man she didn't recognize.
The man, who appeared startled, pushed the woman to the wall and caused her to fall as he ran away with money and jewelry, police said. The woman was left with minor injuries, but didn't need medical attention.
The burglar was described as a clean-shaven white man who was in his 20s, standing about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds with dark brown hair, police said. He wore a gray long-sleeved shirt, black pants and gloves.
