A Week of Sparkle and Shine: New York City Jewelry Week - Forbes
For all of you jewelry aficionados residing in or around New York, this week of November 12-18, 2018, deemed NYCJW (NYC Jewelry Week), will provide you with an abundance of jewelry-centric activities from which to choose. This roster of events, which include educational lectures, studio tours, curated museum tours, panel discussions and collaborative DIY classes shines with the brightest that this city has to offer. In its inaugural year, Co-founders JB Jones and Bella Neyman, both specializing in different realms of jewelry and the arts, have put together a schedule and program that will guide you through an inside look at the various facets of New York’s jewelry scene, from Fifth Avenue’s renowned houses to the small stores that have made Brooklyn a bustling mecca of independent jewelry shops These events, in addition to the museum exhibitions and educational programs celebrate the rich history of jewelry in New York City.

Tuesday, November 13
Curatorial Tour of "Jewelry: The Body Transformed"

Met curator Melanie Holcomb will host a tour of this exhibition which runs from November 12 – February 28. She will focus on the exhibit’s “global conversation about one of the most personal and universal of art forms," the reason we wear jewelry and what it has meant throughout time. The exhibit brings together some 230 objects of headdresses, ear ornaments, brooches and belts, necklaces and rings created throughout civilization until present day and these pieces will be shown along with sculptures, paintings, prints, and photographs to offer context for the stories that these jewels have told throughout history.

Fern Mallis, creator of New York Fashion Week, will moderate a panel of costumer designers from award-winning TV shows, films and theatre to discuss how a statement piece can help shape and tell and story and develop a character or brand. Panelists include: Donna Zakowska, Costume Designer, The Marvelous Ms. Maisel and Broadway’s Relatively Speaking Marci Rodgers, Costume Designer, She's Gotta Have it Jacqueline Demeterio, Costume Designer, Younger, Sex and the City 2 and The Intern Catherine Zuber, Costume Designer, Broadway's My Fair Lady and War Paint.

Marla Aaron will in attendance will give away an exclusively designed #lockyourmom lock to the first 100 single moms (single dads are welcome too!) that attend the event at Greenwich St. Jewelers'. Greenwich St. Jewelers will also present Aaron's entire collection, including her iconic locks, chains, charms, inlay Series and her ‘Earring Project.’

Hosted by the beautifully curated antique and vintage retail shop of Doyle & Doyle and The American Society of Jewelry Historian’s (ASJH), this event allows for sipping cocktails, mingling and browsing through and buying rare jewelry and art books and auction catalogs at heavily discounted prices. ASJH is selling an amazing collection of books from the reference library of prominent Art Nouveau collector, author lecturer, and founder of the original Jewelry Camp, Dr. Joseph Sataloff. 100% of the proceeds of the sale of the books will benefit the ASJH to support lectures, scholarships and programs for the jewelry community.

Tom Heyman, collector of historically significant pieces by Oscar Heyman that date back to the early part of the 20th century, Mahnaz Ispahani buyer for private clients and jewelry consultant and appraiser Dianne Batista who works with auction houses and private clients will sit on this panel to discuss how to collection and build a jewelry collection based on your different goals. They will cover topics of why and how to collect, the attributes that make a piece worth owning. Additionally the will discuss how jewelry houses decide which pieces from their archive need to be resurrected and how does it affect their value on the secondary market.
