3 men from Greensboro, High Point indicted in jewelry store robberies - Greensboro News & Record
RALEIGH — Three Triad men, two from High Point, one from Greensboro, are among five who have been indicted in connection to armed robberies of jewelry stores in Elizabeth City and Garner earlier this year.
A federal grand jury returned the five-count indictment against 53-year-old Charles Anthony Walker jr. and Joey Wayne Chambers, 23, both of High Point, and 25-year-old Byron Jacobee Sparks, 25, of Greensboro, Robert J. Higdon Jr., U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, announced Wednesday in a news release.
The indictment alleges that the three men along with Christopher Wellington Brown, 48, of Chapel Hill, and Malik Shawn Maynard, 48, of Durham, conspired to rob a Kay Jewelers in Elizabeth City on July 28, and another one in Garner on Oct. 11. Walker allegedly aided and abetted Brown and Maynard who were allegedly armed during the robberies.
Walker, Brown and Maynard each face 32 years in prison, while Chambers and Sparks face up to 20 years, according to the release.
The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Elizabeth City Police Department, the Garner Police Department, and the Greensboro Police Department.
