Teen who threatened to kill Martin County jewelry store owner during robbery dies, family sues - WPTV.com

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. — A teenager who was shot last month by a jewelry store owner on the Treasure Coast has died. The owner said he felt his life was threatened after the teen robbed his store. The State Attorney's office did not press charges against the owner.

The shooting happened on Dec. 13 at the Treasure Coast Liquidators located off of Northwest Federal Highway when a 17-year-old boy went to the store asking to see gold rings and a gold chain.

Barbara Dacey, the owner of the store, said the teen tried on three rings.

She told the teen he couldn’t try them all on at once, and that’s when, according to a document from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the teen threatened her life.

Dacey’s husband, Michael, said the teen ran out of the store with the rings, and got into a Jeep, driven by a 16-year-old.

Michael Dacey shot the 17 year old in the head.

The family of the teen hired the Shiner Law firm, which said in a blog post that he died on Dec. 19. On Dec. 28, said they planned to file a wrongful death lawsuit against Michael Dacey.

The Martin County Sheriff said last month it’s unlikely Michael Dacey will be charged.

The sheriff said under Florida law it is likely the 16-year-old getaway driver will be charged with murder, among other charges.

Shiner and Dacey were not available for comment.
