Woman steals jewelry from employer to pay for divorce: Deputies - WPEC
A woman from Belle Glade is accused of stealing jewelry from the house of a woman she cleans for to help pay for her divorce, according to authorities.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says 36-year-old Alpina Castro-Cruz is facing a charge of grand theft over 300 dollars.
According to deputies, the victim, a blind woman, reported missing jewelry to the authorities Saturday, telling them that her wallet, two rings, two gold bracelets and $300 was missing from her house. She realized the items were missing when she felt her remote on her bed, instead of being in the drawer where it is supposed to be, the arrest report says.
She said she noticed them missing after Castro-Cruz came to her house in the early morning to clean, the arrest report says. The victim left her house to go to the store with her cousin while Castro-Cruz was cleaning her residence.
Castro-Cruz showed deputies the items when they started questioning her, the arrest reported noted.
She told them came upon them while cleaning and stole them to help pay for a lawyer as she is going through a "nasty divorce," according to the arrest report.
