Brooklyn mall bandit makes off with $95K worth of jewelry - New York Post

A brazen jewel thief stole 18 rings worth about $95,000 from a busy Brooklyn mall while surrounded by shoppers, police said Monday.

The bare-bones heist happened at Gallery Jewelry in Kings Plaza mall just after 5 p.m. on Sunday, cops said.

Security footage shows the bandit, sporting a blue bucket hat and a blue jacket, nonchalantly leaning on a display case — then reaching behind the counter to lift open an unlocked display case door.

Then he takes a tray filled with rings and slips it, rings and all, into his jacket, video shows.

The crook then left the store with two other men, who were acting as lookouts, cops said.

Police are still investigating the robbery.

The crime appears to be unrelated to a $4 million jewelry heist at Avianne & Co. Jewelers in Midtown Manhattan last month, police said.
