San Bruno man arrested in jewelry store theft - The Mercury News

MILLBRAE – Authorities over the weekend arrested a 26-year-old San Bruno man on suspicion of stealing a pair of earrings from a jewelry store in Millbrae.

The theft was reported at Numis International Inc., located at 301 Broadway, just after 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Monday.

The suspect, identified as Tavake Taufa, asked a clerk to see a pair of earrings valued at about $1,800 and then ran out of the store with them, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said an employee followed Taufa while another called 911.

Deputies from the Millbrae Police Bureau arrested Taufa at the scene and recovered the earrings, according to the sheriff’s office.

Taufa was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City on charges of commercial burglary and grand theft. He remains in custody and is slated to appear in court Tuesday.
