Studio Shamshiri Designs Sonia Boyajian Studio and Store on La Brea

Jewelry designer Sonia Boyajian debuted her first retail shop this past weekend, designed by Pamela Shamshiri of Studio Shamshiri. The bow and truss building located at 357 North La Brea Avenue includes custom-made plywood display cases, areas to browse and lounge, Boyajian’s jewelry studio and office, ceramics facilities, a full kitchen and bathroom, and an event or gallery space. Boyajian’s creative wonderland also features experimental large-scale pieces she fabricated herself, including ceramic pendant and sconce lighting, and a mobile made in collaboration with David Wiseman.

The overall immersive concept was heavily inspired by a pilgrimage Boyajian and Shamshiri made to Georgia O’Keeffe’s home in Abiquiu, New Mexico. “It was really a true collaboration between us,” Boyajian tells AD PRO about the yearlong effort. “I wouldn't have asked anybody else. She's a close friend and knows me really well.”

Kalon Studios Launches Its First Line of Hand-Turned Wooden Tableware

Last week, Michaele Simmering and Johannes Pauwen of Los Angeles–based Kalon Studios officially launched the company's first line of handcrafted wooden tableware, an effort that first began in Simmering's father's barn in western Massachusetts. "The collection is close to our hearts as we've been working on it for ages," Simmering explains to AD PRO. "The pieces are all turned here in the States, and it took years to find people capable of doing the work. Except for hobbyists, the craft has almost entirely disappeared."

BZippy Ceramics Online Sale Offered Through November 25

L.A. ceramic artist Bari Ziperstein’s BZippy & Co. brand is offering a 30 percent preholiday discount for online orders until Monday, November 25. Ziperstein, whose larger work is also available at The Future Perfect, has added new colors of the Hex Tables and Tube Series vessels to her 2019 BZippy collection.

Bunch Design Establishes an Arm Specializing in Accessory Dwelling Units

In response to growing demand and state legislation supporting the construction of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), Bo Sundius and Hisako Ichiki have established the BunchADU arm of their design firm, Bunch Design. This venture focuses on predesigned and custom ADU designs and plans. Two completed BunchADU residences were featured during the L.A. Design Festival's ADU tour this past June.
