LOWER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) — New Jersey Police are looking for the rightful owners of two pieces of jewelry recovered from a theft investigation involving a donation box set up in Cape May County.
Authorities say on August 9, 29-year-old James Osborn and 27-year-old Jessica Osborn of Tuckahoe allegedly stole bags of items from a military veteran’s donation bin that was set up in Lower Township.
Two pieces of jewelry, which appear to be bracelets, were recovered during the investigation. They are estimated to be worth more than $2000.
Both of the pieces are inscribed and have multiple charms but it’s not clear if they belong to the same owner. One of the pieces reads, “Marie and Tom 6-3-57.” Another date, “4-17-69,” is engraved on the other.
James Osborn is accused of selling the jewelry to a local pawn shop for $1,250. Police say he maintains that the jewelry was indeed taken from the donation bin but officials suspect the couple may have acquired the jewelry another way.
They have been charged with theft and other related charges.
Officials are now asking the public to share photos of the jewelry on social media so it can be returned to their rightful owners.
