New jewelry store opens at Bridgewater Falls - Hamilton Journal News
FAIRFIELD TWP. —
A new business here is striving to offer an eclectic mix of locally made, hand-crafted jewelry and other gifts.
Sterling Seraph opened Thursday at 3425 Princeton Road, Fairfield Twp., in a 1,280-square-foot Bridgewater Falls storefront with a seemingly endless supply of artisan sterling silver jewelry made with rock, crystal, fossil and gemstones.
“(I love) the artistry and the creativity of it,” said owner Dawn Singleton, who displays the first piece of jewelry she ever designed during a 1991 arts metals class while a students at Lakota High School.
Singleton formerly worked in the insurance business but opened a booth on weekends in 2013 at Treasure Aisles Flea Market in Monroe after co-workers consistently praised her jewelry-making skills.
“Everybody used to say I was too creative for insurance,” she said. “I had been working seven days a week: insurance for five days and doing this at the flea market Saturdays and Sundays, sacrificing my days off and my holidays to do what I love, my fun job.”
Displaying her artsy wares at Bridgewater Falls’ farmers market got Singleton noticed by an event organizer, who suggested her work was strong enough to sell inside a brick-and-mortar location of its own.
Besides locally made products, the business also offers designs from Indonesia, Israel, Poland, Mexico, Thailand and the United States.
Sterling Seraph also offers repair services to sterling silver jewelry.
Several local soap makers, including Singleton herself, contribute to the dozens of offerings at Sterling Seraph, which also offers all natural and nearly natural bath and beauty products such as bath bombs, lotions, lip balms, bubble bar cakes, bath salts and essential oils.
One local artist will get to have his or her work displayed on a monthly basis and take home 80 percent of each work’s sale, Singleton said.
“They’re the ones putting the time and effort in their work,” she said. “I want them to reap the reward of that.”
Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as Thursdays through Saturdays.
