Thieves cut hole in ceiling to steal jewelry from Va. pawn shop - WJLA
MANASSAS, Va. (ABC7) —
Prince William County Police are investigating a Mission Impossible-style jewelry store burglary in which the thief or thieves cut a hole in a roof and then made their way 25-30 feet down to steal from two safes.
Police say it happened in Manassas sometime between midnight and 8:30 a.m. Sunday. The hole was cut in the roof of the Global Food grocery store, which is located in the Festival at Manassas Shopping Center on Sudley Rd.
They say after the suspect or suspects cut the hole in the roof and made their way down, they broke into an office and then cut open the back of two safes.
The store that was actually robbed is called Vision Jewelry and Pawn, which a Global Food employee says rents space inside the grocery store.
The son of the jewelry store's owner tells ABC7 by phone that although he is not sure, he believes over $100,000 worth of jewelry was stolen.
The employee of Global Food ABC7's Tom Roussey talked to says after the burglary, the suspect or suspects made their way back up and out through the roof and escaped.
As of Tuesday, no arrests have been made and there was no description available of the suspects. A nearby employee says police officers spent a lot of time looking at his store's security camera footage of the back of the shopping center.
