Kim Kardashian had 13 valuable pieces of jewelry stolen from her, but as of Oct. 10, police discovered a cross pendant outside of her luxury Paris apartment and are testing it for the robbers’ DNA. HollywoodLife.com spoke to a forensic expert, who tells us how officials can capture Kim’s attackers using traces of the DNA found on the dropped necklace!
Forensic DNA Consultant Suzanna Ryan tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that while police can technically identify any attackers who touched the necklace that was dropped outside, it won’t be easy. “First, there has to be enough DNA left behind by the person who stole the necklace,” Ryan says. “If Kim wore the necklace or handled it or touched it in any way, her own DNA will be on it.”
“However, when this burglar came along and touched the necklace, it’s possible they left enough of their own DNA so that their DNA profile can be picked out,” Ryan explains. That means the lab can separate the robbers’ DNA from Kim’s, and cross-examine the profile in an international database.

That’s not the only option. “If there’s a suspect, the DNA can be compared directly to him or her,” Ryan adds. Of course, there are many factors that complicate the situation. “If the burglar didn’t wear gloves, there’s a better chance of identifying him or her, but there are a lot of variables involving the transfer of skin cell DNA,” Ryan warns.
“If you are nervous or sweating, you can transfer more DNA because it brings the DNA to surface of the skin,” she adds. “If you are touching a lot of items — such as other jewelry — then when you handle the necklace, you may have less DNA available for transfer.” That makes it tricky to determine whose DNA it really is.
