2 shot, wounded at Highland jewelry store; suspects outstanding ... - San Bernardino County Sun
Two people were shot and wounded just after 11 a.m. Thursday during the armed robbery of a Highland pawn shop and the three attackers have not been arrested, sheriff’s officials say.
The two victims were hit inside the pawn shop — Tony’s Jewelry and Loan Pawn Shop in the 26000 block of Highland Avenue. Both have been taken to the hospital. Their conditions weren’t immediately known.
The men managed to get away with several items from the business and then fled in west on Highland Avenue in a light green four-door Honda, sheriff’s officials said.
Although authorities have not identified the wounded employees, a man and his son ran toward the scene and told investigators one of the victims was their wife and mother.
Deputies took the man inside the business and his son went to the hospital. After interviewing the man, deputies drove him to the hospital to be with his wife.
A woman who lives behind the pawn shop said customers had to be buzzed into the business and she said she was surprised anyone was able to get in to rob them.
Maria Arias said the owners of the shop are an older couple, possibly in their 60s. Authorities have not said if they were the ones shot.
“They were really nice people,” said Arias, who didn’t hear any gunshots. “It’s scary to think it happened so close to where we live.”
