Seeking owner of jewelry

A man who found a bag of jewelry near a busy Bayonne intersection on New Year's Day wants to return the items to their owner.

The six pieces of jewelry were found inside a small, silk bag with a name on the front of it in the middle of the street, near the intersection of Avenue C and West 50th Street.

The man, who only provided his first name - Frank - said he reported to police that he found the jewelry but wants to make sure the owner gets it back.  The owner will have to identify the name on the bag and prove that the jewelry belongs to them.

Hospital donates backpacks, equipment

CarePoint Health-Bayonne Medical Center donated 250 backpacks to the Bayonne PAL Day Care Center. CarePoint representatives presented the backpacks to kids from the PAL with city officials in attendance on the front lawn of the hospital. 

The hospital also donated hemodialysis machinery and tanks to a kidney center in the U.S. Virgin Islands. CarePoint Health-Bayonne Medical Center was able to donate the machines after the opened the new $1.2 million Hemodialysis Center on Sept. 19.

Hospitals receive award

All three CarePoint Health hospitals were honored for sharing awareness of organ and tissue donations. NJ Sharing Network honored the hospitals at a ceremony at the organization's New Providence headquarters.

Hoboken University Medical Center and Christ Hospital received the platinum award, which is the highest honor. Bayonne Medical Center received the gold award, which is the second highest honor.

2,300 participate in Christmas exchange

The Hoboken Christmas Exchange helped more than 1,200 family members get Christmas gifts this year. Over 2,300 people participated in the exchange, giving kids and their families presents for Christmas this year.

Doctor receives proclamation

Dr. Vijay Singh, the chief medical officer at CarePoint Health-Bayonne Medical Center, is receiving a proclamation from Mayor Jimmy Davis at a City Council Chambers ceremony. Dr. Singh along with Rev. George Greiss and Jose Medina of the BMC Board of Advisors are being recognized for their community service by the New Jersey Center for Empowerment and Community Development.

Jersey City performer featured in showcase

Frank Calabrese of Jersey City will be participating in the bi-annual Kean Actor Showcase on Jan. 11. The performance will feature current and recent graduates from the Theatre Performance program at Kean University. Calabrese is part of the Class of 2017.

Bank holds toy drive

Provident Bank held a toy drive at its administrative, back office and branch locations. The company collected more than 500 toys. The toys were donated to organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth and Middlesex counties, Center for Hope and Safety, Jersey City Economic Development Corporation, Kids 1st and Toys for Tots.
