Swedish silversmith showcases jewelry in Rockford - 23 WIFR - WIFR

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - A few Rockford shops could soon be selling jewelry made in and inspired by Sweden.

Owner of Ola Silversmide, Ola Hammstrom, visited Rockford from Sweden to display his jewelry and talk about how it's made. He says his jewelry reflects matches and cranes from Tidaholm, Sweden. Tidaholm is where the safety match was invented and it's also home to Sweden's most modern match factory, that's why his jewelry comes in a matchbox. The cranes reminded Hammstrom of a lake in Tidaholm.

"And it could be over 20, 30,000 cranes everyday there. And they are beautiful to look at and it reflects in the spring the new life, everything started off so I fall in love with the cranes," said Hammstrom.

Hammstrom's jewelry is sold at the Swedish American Museum in Chicago and at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis and possibly soon in Rockford.
