Man smashes Roseville jewelry cases with hammers, leaves jewels ... - KCRA Sacramento

Shoppers at the Roseville Galleria went running for the exits Friday afternoon after a man came in with a hammer in each hand and started pounding away at jewelry cases.

It happened at Fast-Fix Jewelry and Watch Repairs around 12:50 p.m. Police said the suspect is a former employee who they believe was disgruntled.

“There was a mother and small child there, and he told them, directed them to leave, or something to that effect, and then he started smashing the cases,” Roseville Police Officer Carlos Cortes said.

The jewelry inside the cases, mainly rings and earrings, was left untouched. A hammer was also left behind. Both hammers were eventually confiscated by officers.

The suspect, who’s yet to be publicly identified by police, talked to KCRA 3 News from the back of the police car. He said he wasn’t mad and didn’t come to steal anything.

“I have a problem with (the jewelry store owner) before. We came to say, 'Happy New Year.' I’ll see (the owner) in the court later,” the suspect said.

The suspect was taken down by several onlookers including Stephen Degraaf, who works at a restaurant across from the jewelry store.

“I ran up, grabbed his hand, put it behind his hand like I’ve seen on cops TV shows all the time, did a little leg sweep, put him down on the ground,” Degraaf said.

The suspect is now facing multiple charges, including felony vandalism and burglary.
