Troopers: Flooring company worker stole jewelry at multiple homes - 13WHAM-TV
North Hornell, N.Y. (WHAM) - State Police arrested a man from Springwater on Thursday in connection with a burglary in Steuben County.
Troopers said a woman in North Hornell called them after she noticed jewelry had been stolen from her home on two separate occasions.
While investigating, police determined a flooring company based in western Steuben County had been working in an adjourning home on both occasions. Troopers said 45-year-old Matthew Stewart was one of the workers in that home and later determined he had gone inside the victim's home twice and stolen jewelry.
Stewart was arrested and charged with felony second-degree burglary. He was arraigned and remanded to the Steuben County Jail without bail.
Troopers determined multiple victims through the course of their investigation - all of which may have also contracted with the same flooring company.
Anyone who believes they may have been a victim should call State Police at (585) 728-5007.
